How do you know if your marriage can survive when your spouse has decided to end the marriage? Some say only time will tell, but I beg to differ. It's not if your marriage will survive, but what it is going to do to ensure that it has the best possible chance to make it through your current problems in the relationship. Time does not heal all wounds, in fact, this type of mind set can actually ruin your chances to save it. It's the spouse who begins to take action now that will have the best chance in saving their marriage. Take this simple little test to make sure your giving your marriage the best possible chance to survive.
Are you currently giving your spouse enough space? This does not mean that you leave them alone when they leave or head off to work. It also includes while at home, that you're not constantly in their face about the marriage or turning every conversation into a discussion about the marriage. Pick and choose your battles carefully and in moderation.
Do you lose control when talking about the marriage? This is a very emotionally charged time to say the least. One of the worst things you can do is lose control of yourself and do things that you'll later regret. Not only that, but not being in control of yourself at all times can be extremely risky during this time. It's often what often ends the marriage prematurely.
Have you become irrational or acting in a threatening manner? This goes hand in hand with remaining in control of yourself. Some think that threatening with doing harm to their selves or threatening to damage possession of their spouse will somehow change their mind to stay in the marriage. This could not be further from the truth, it only serves as extra strikes against you. That's a tiny example, this includes all threats across the board, do not threaten to do anything period.
Do you have a plan? The number one thing that spouses who have saved their marriage from divorce have in common, is that they had some sort of plan. The main reason, is that they actually had some steps that built upon each other that they could follow and see results. Not having a plan of action, is pretty much like rolling the dice, you never know what you're going to get or if what you're doing is even going to work or for that matter supply to work.
